CARROT MILK SHAKE

Ramadhan always goes by very fast.. even before I realized we are almost halfway thro' fasting.. Its wonderful how the blessed month runs out so easily.. Its summer time and sure is a very long day for fasting.. almost 15-16 hours.. May Allah make it easy for us..Inshaallah.. I am trying to make an attempt to keep our system cool and really rejuvenate when we break the fast.. Its not like summer is terrible or anything but come on its summer and its definitely not cold..

We generally try to use the ingredients that has a cooling effect on the body.. One such kind is Tukamaria / Basil Seeds.. I try to use it in everything possible especially during fasting.. These are tiny black seeds that just blows up a little when soaked in water.. and is known to heal the heat during
summer..

This recipe has become my favorite drink for Iftar.. It is so filling, so cooling, so healthy.. except for the sugar used in it :) Maybe next time, I should try sweetener.. But may I say its definitely worth the calories.. Once I tried, making kheer with sweetener and it was a disaster.. I am really not upto the point of compromising taste.. at any cost. :)

We hate Carrots at home.. The only way we eat em' is , if I would incorporate it with other vege's or in other words literally hide the existence of that vegetable or mask the taste of it.. So , for those of you who are in "I hate Carrots" Club.. This recipe will be a very good way to sneak in the nutrients.. :)) You will not believe how wonderful it tastses..  or in other words it doesn't taste like carrot at all..

Ingredients

Carrot - 250gms
Milk - 2cups
Sugar - 1/4 cup
Tukamaria / Basil Seeds- 2tbsp
Rose Essence - 4-5 drops

Preparation
  • Clean carrots, cut them into pieces and pressure cook or microwave them with little water, only to cover the carrots. Let it cool..
  • Soak tukamaria in sufficient water.. giving it room to grow..
  • In a blender.. add cooked carrots, milk, sugar, essence and blend into a nice and smooth puree..
  • Adjust milk according to the desired consistency..
  • Add the tukamaria seeds to this and refrigerate ..
  • Serve chilled.
Tips & Tricks

1] I used fat free milk.. so did not add any extra water..
2] Cook the carrots completely.. Uncooked carrots will not taste good for this..
3] Let tukamaria soak until you see a off white outer layer with a tiny black dot in the centre.. These seeds drink a lot of water.. U might want to keep adding water if needed..

The thirst quenching drink is on its way to..
